The season of Lent is once again upon us! Father John V. Doyle School students, faculty, and families attended Ash Wednesday prayer service led by one of our eighth grade homerooms. Now, throughout Lent, we will be supporting each other in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. As always, we start each day together in the gym with Morning Prayer. We pray for the intentions of our school and parish family, and we reflect on the readings of the day.
Typically, children give up chocolates or other sweets for their Lenten Promise. However, we also encourage our students to sacrifice things that are not related to food or other indulgences. Many students choose to take time to provide actions or activities that will enhance the lives of others!
Almsgiving is demonstrated as our school family is asked to donate non-perishable items to the Coventry Food Bank through our Lenten Food Drive. We will be collecting items throughout the season, ending with a Penny Drive during Holy Week.
As we enter this first full week of Lent, we invite you to join us on our Lenten journey!
“Sometimes all we can give is a smile, but sometimes that is the greatest sacrifice, the greatest prayer, and indeed the most generous and most sacrificial alms.” –Catholic Education Resource Center
