This past week, I was blessed to have visits from many of my friends in First Grade. They came to tell me about a fun activity they had completed over the Christmas break – a marshmallow reading challenge! Our first grade students know how important it is to maintain good reading habits – even while on a break. They each chose different reading challenges, and upon completion of a challenge, glued a paper marshmallow onto a “mug” which was then decorated. Challenges ranged from “read with a grandparent” to “read in your pajamas” to “read on the couch” plus many more. The decorated mugs were lovely – colorful, full of sequins, and full of marshmallow challenges!
Winter is definitely present throughout First Grade’s other activities as well! They have written winter poems, created snow globes, and are learning about polar bears and penguins! The biggest hit though has to have been decorating candy houses. Students decorated their houses using frosting and lots of candy! How much candy was used on the houses versus how much was eaten remains unclear! The one thing we know for certain is that our students were all very happy with their creations which they took home to share with families!
